The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has issued a compelling call to female health practitioners nationwide, urging them to intensify efforts in reducing infant and maternal mortality through enhanced patient advocacy, particularly on gender-related health issues.

This plea was made during a courtesy visit by the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), led by its National President, Professor Rosemary Ogu, to the Minister's office in Abuja.

Highlighting the urgency of their role as caregivers, Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized the necessity for the association to diligently deploy the requisite tools and advocacy strategies to improve the health status of women, children, and vulnerable individuals.

She stressed that such efforts would not only contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality rates but also foster socio-economic development within the nation.

The Minister conveyed the administration's recognition, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the pivotal role played by medical personnel in realizing the government's Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in areas directly impacting the lives of women, children, and vulnerable populations.

Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye affirmed the Ministry's commitment to sustained collaboration with relevant bodies and stakeholders to effectively fulfill its mandate.

In an earlier statement, Professor Rosemary Ogu, National President of MWAN, expressed congratulations to the Honourable Minister on her appointment and sought avenues for potential collaboration between the Medical Women Association of Nigeria and the Ministry. Professor Ogu assured the Ministry of the association's readiness to partner in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
